Are you about to propose, but you’re not sure if the timing is right or even if your partner wants to get married?
Don’t worry, a lot of people find themselves in this situation, and all you’ve got to do is answer a few questions.
The right time to propose is different for everyone who wants to pop the question, but the events leading up to the moment all have something in common.
So, if you want to be sure your partner is going to say yes, and you want to be sure you’re setting the mood just right, make sure you can cross off all of the points below.
When You’ve Talked About It
If you’ve been talking about marriage before now, and you and your partner are on the same page about what you want from the future and who you want to be in it, then it’s certainly going to be the right time to propose.
Communication is everything when it comes to popping the question, and even if you want it to be a surprise, it shouldn’t come as a shock or completely out of the blue.
You should be able to gauge your partner’s reaction ahead of time, because you know them, and you’ve talked about it, so be sure to fire up this conversation if you haven’t had it already.
When They’re Dropping Hints
Dropping hints can be a bad idea – you never know when your partner is going to pick them up, or even recognise them at all! But if your significant other has trailed you around jewellery stores before, and pointed out something like this diamond engagement ring to you, it might be a sign they’re thinking of marriage.
But the potential hint dropping doesn’t stop there. Your partner may suddenly fire up the conversation about getting an extension done, to ensure there’s enough room for the future.
They may also start talking about how they always dreamed of a big white wedding. These are all hints, and it might be time to fire up a serious conversation about what they want from your relationship, and whether or not it’s time to propose!
When You’re Completely Comfortable with Each Other
Are you comfortable with your other half? If so, it certainly doesn’t mean a spark has gone out of your relationship! Oh no, quite the opposite – if you’re willing to place all your bad habits on the table, and the other person just accepts them and gets on with things, you’re ready to spend the rest of your life together.
And when that moment comes, don’t worry, you’re going to recognise it. Maybe they leave the bathroom door open sometimes when they’re in there, or maybe they’re not afraid to burp in front of you.
Don’t think of these moments as the magic flitting away – they’re proof you’re in it for the long haul.
So, when IS the right time to propose? Well, that’s for you to decide!
